The home page provides a quick insight into the portfolio, addressing various management questions.

The first panel is a navigation panel - providing a list of available heat maps, each addressing specific management objective.
The second panel is a display panel - displaying the heat map.

The title row of the map has a filter icon. Filter allows you to change the criteria to be used for selecting and displaying the data in the map.

To drill down in the hierarchy: Click the grid (cell) in the heat map
To go up or roll up in the hierarchy: Click the grid (cell) again in case of a tree map; or right click in case of a heat map.
To jump to page with details for the item in the last node of the tree map or a cell in a heat map, double click the node or cell.

The titles of the page may be different than what are listed below. They may have been “personalized” for your organization.

Note: Based on the configuration and permissions, you may not see all heat maps on the page.

IT Service Portfolio
  • A tree map of all IT Services organized into an hierarchy. Double click on the last node (IT Service) will take you to at-a-glance page of the selected IT Service.
Technology Portfolio
  • A tree map of all technologies organized into an hierarchy.
Technology Distribution
  • A heat map of IT Services Portfolio - the IT services with technologies are colored. The number of technologies used by the service are displayed. It does not include technology versions of each technology used.
  • The filter can be used to narrow the scope of services shown and change the color used.
Service Governance Heat Map
  • A heat map of IT Services Portfolio - highlighting services using “standard” technologies. For each highlighted service, it displays the count of standard technologies out of total number of technologies used by the service. The services with no defined standard technologies are shown in grey. The services with no defined technologies are shown in white.
  • Use this heat map to answer the question about degree of compliance with technology standards - What services are using standard technologies and to what extent?
Technology Risk - Life Cycle Heat Map
  • A heat map of IT Services with technology life cycles. This heat map shows the highest life cycle state across the technologies used by a service. For example, if a service is using three technologies. Two of them are supported by the vendor and one of them is not supported by the vendor. The service will colored with “no support” life cycle and display one out of three technologies are not supported by the vendor.
  • Use this map to understand the state of the life cycle. Quickly identify where the potential technology risks are.
  • The filter can be used to select a different timeframe or to consider specific life cycle stages.
Technology Risk - Life Cycle (Technology view)
  • A heat of technologies with their life cycles. This heat map is similar to the heat map above, the map is organized by technologies rather than IT Services.
Complexity Tax - Multiple Technology Versions
  • A heat map of IT Services Portfolio, highlighting services using multiple technologies.
  • Multiple technologies and multiple technology versions providing the same or similar capabilities, tend to increase the cost and complexity. Use this map to identify services with high complexity (multiple technology versions) and the drill down to explore further what is causing added complexity.
  • The filter can be used to select data with specific governance and life cycle stages. Use the filter to specify a minimal count of technology versions to be used to highlight services.
Consolidation Opportunity - Technology Versions
  • A heat map of IT services Portfolio, highlighting services with multiple versions of the same technologies.
  • Over time, we may be using multiple versions of the same technology. use this heat map to find out where are the consolidation opportunities by reducing the number of versions being used.
  • The filter can be used to narrow down to services and technologies with specific governance and life cycle stages. Use the filter to specify a minimal count of technology versions to be used to highlight services.
Service Capability Maturity Heatmap
  • A heat map of IT Service Portfolio, displaying the capability maturity level of various services.
  • Use the filter to change the snapshot (timeframe) to see the change in capability maturity over time.
Capability Frameworks
  • A tree map of a capability model. For example, IT-CMF capability maturity model from Innovation Value Institute.
Capability Heatmap
  • A heat map of a Capability Framework , displaying the maturity level of capabilities in the model
  • Use the filter to change the snapshot (timeframe) to see the change in capability maturity over time.
  • Tree map - a navigation layout, representing an hierarchy.
  • Heat map - a color-coded map of items, organized into an hierarchy
