Capability Improvement Planning

To create additional value, something has to change.

Capability Maturity Assessment identifies the current and desired state of capabilities. Capability Model describes the capability characteristics, dependencies and enabling practices at each level of maturity.

Capability Improvement Planning or Roadmapping develops an actionable plan of change that organizations can execute and monitor over time.

A capability improvement planning process may include the following steps.

Most of the planning activities can be performed from the pages under the PLANNING menu.

A strategic plan may include many elements, for example,

  • Current capabilities, Vision and desired capabilities
  • Assumptions and Risks
  • Trends
  • Dependencies
  • Intermediate goals, steps or milestones
  • Projects

CAMP recognizes all these elements as “EVENTS” in a roadmap. It included a predefined list of event types you can use in development of the plan.

To add or change the event types, go to REFERENCE page under Administration menu. Add or update system reference records with object=EVENT, attribute=SUBCLASS and qualifier=CAPABILITY. You must have a service provider role to update system reference data.

To use an alias name for an existing event type, create alias records using System Reference Data Aliases option from Reference page. In most cases adding an alias should be sufficient in defining organization-specific elements. You must have an administrator role to update system reference alias data.
